Los Angeles, CA – Hackerspace Los Angeles announces today that they will host an open call for makers to participate in the first annual Maker Faire to be held in Los Angeles. The open call will be during a media presentation on May 2 at 10am at Wildwood School’s WISRD Institute, West Los Angeles.

We are inviting those who have used science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics in original and creative ways in the building of unique objects or staging of original presentations. The San Fernando Valley Mini Maker Faire is not a competitive science fair or art show. It is a fun event where over 100 makers will gather to share their creations with each other and the public in general.

Under a license and sponsorship from Make: and with the support of the City of Los Angeles Councilwoman Martinez of District 6, Hackerspace Los Angeles plan to produce the first annual Maker Faire in Los Angeles area. The San Fernando Valley Mini Maker Faire, as it will be named on its first year, will host over 100 makers and their creations, live entertainment, and a series of talks geared toward the maker community.

About Maker Faire: (http://www.makerfaire.com)

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth! It’s a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.

The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2015 celebrated its tenth annual show with some 1100+ makers and 145,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in four years to 600+ makers and 80,000 attendees. Detroit, Kansas City, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Orlando, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Silver Spring, Ottawa, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Newcastle, Hannover, Oslo, Trondheim, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, and Shenzhen are the home of larger-scale, “featured” Maker Faires. In addition, over 120 community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world—including right here in Los Angeles.
